The Kindle Fire 2 is the real Kindle Fire

The Kindle Fire has been a big success stateside, though it sadly hasn't yet made it to the UK. However, there is plenty of speculation and rumour about what the Kindle Fire 2 could bring to the party - and whether it will be available in the UK.
So we've rounded up all the suggested Kindle Fire 2 specs, release date and more and put together this little piece to share them all with you.
The Kindle Fire 2 is the real Kindle Fire
Amazon Kindle Fire 2 rumours: what you need to know
Speaking to Gdgt, a "source" claimed that the Kindle Fire 2 is the tablet Amazon really wanted to make, but couldn't get out in time for the pre-Christmas shopping period.
Kindle Fire 2 release date
The Kindle Fire 2 is set to land in spring 2012, according to DigiTimes, which reported that Quanta Computer has already been given the order to start producing the new device.
However, on March 8, Digitimes suggested that the second Kindle Fire wouldn't launch until the second half of 2012 - and that there would be more than one version of the tablet.
On March 26, rumours emerged that Taiwanese chassis manufacturer Catcher had received an order from Amazon for a new tablet.
The Kindle Fire 2 screen will be bigger
The Telegraph - and many others - predicts a Kindle Fire 2 vs new iPad summertime tablet fight-fest based entirely on a single post by the not-always-that-accurate DigiTimes, which says that the Kindle Fire 2 will have an 8.9-inch touch screen and will begin manufacturing in the first quarter of 2012.
That may well be true, but Digitimes also reports that the Kindle Fire 2 screen will be 9.7 inches, or maybe 10.1 inches. Perhaps the Kindle Fire 2 is made from potatoes and powered by clockwork elves.

Not one, not two, but THREE Kindle Fire 2 models incoming?

While we're still waiting for the release of the first Amazon Kindle Fire tablet here in the UK, new reports suggest that its sequel come in three different versions.

While previous rumours had suggested the next Kindle Fire would come in 10 and 7-inch variants, numerous Taiwanese publications are now contradicting that, stating that the Kindle Fire 2 will come in an 8.9 inch size and two slightly differing 7-inch models.

The main difference between the two 7-inch versions is said to be screen resolutions: an entry level model will kick off proceedings with a 1024 x 600 resolution, with the mid-range model offering a 1280 x 800 screen.
Moving up to the 8.9 incher, it'll be Amazon's top of the line model, offering a full HD screen resolution, with only the new iPad offering more impressive display tech in a tablet.
Of course, as ever, it's all rumour and speculation at this point. But should the rumours regarding the HD 8.9 incher prove true, the Retina Display of the latest iPad may have a new, cut price rival quite soon.

This is because Amazon is going full HD! A 1920 x 1200 display sounds great, and is quite an unexpected turn of events for most people. Apple will certainly have to watch out and get down and face the realty which is the Kindle Fire 2, the new amazing tablet that Amazon will certainly use to its full potential. The previous kindle was considered by most an entry level device and that’s why the cost of $199 was perfectly fine. What will the new product bring and how much will Amazon charge for it? If you are really concerned about the price tag then check out our study of the Amazon’s Kindle Fire 2 cost.

One is sure though, thanks to the Amazon-Foxconn agreement you can expect the new kindle to be high quality and very durable. Amazon is certainly investing a lot of effort (and money) to not only stay in the tablet food chain, but also the get to the top of it! Amazon will also try to sell the tablet as cheap as possible so they may get more new users and costumers. However, there is a lot going under the hood of this fancy gadget and it is hard to believe that Amazon will keep cheaper prices for too long so your best bet is to get it while its hot when it does come out!

Tech Specs
The Kindle Fire now available in the market is powered with a dual-core processor and runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). It can run for eight hours on a single charge and has 8GB of internal memory.
The next Kindle Fire could have a quad-core processor and a better display .
Price
The new tablet is expected to be priced at approximately £150 (7in) and £180 for the 8.9in model. While there is an understandable increase in prices over the older Kindle Fire, there are rumours Apple is planning a mini-iPad expected to launch in Q3 of this year and will probably be priced around the sams as the Kindle Fire 2.
UK Release
Amazon may look to launch the new range sometime during the spring of this year. However, there is no specific information, as yet, about the UK release date.
Meanwhile, Taiwan-based Quanta Computer, the world's largest notebook maker and producer of the Kindle Fire, has reportedly received an order from Amazon to begin work for its forthcoming tablet - Kindle Fire 2.
There are contradictory reports, though. There is news Foxconn, the manufacturer of the new iPad, has won the contract for the Fire 2.

The Orders For Kindle Fire 2 Leaked At Catcher Technology!

Kindle Fire has dominated the market for so long it made us wonder if anyone was planning on trying to beat Amazon and make something better. Apple certainly gave it a shot with their iPad 3 and the heavy storm of rumors that were aimed at promoting the product and discrediting its competition. It seems like the storm has passed and it’s now time for Amazon to strike back with some hot, juicy news on the Kindle Fire 2!
The news leaked fresh from China and the famous tablet manufacturer Catcher Technology. Their team has gotten their orders and will start production for the new Kindle Fire 2 as soon as possible. It would appear that all the conditions and terms have been met and project is about to kick-start. What will Cather Technology be making for Amazon and is their quality good? A lot can be said about Chinese engineering and Cather is proud, reputable name. They will supply Amazon with the chassis from their factory in Taizhou, China with estimated gross margins of 40%.

But are the Chinese enthusiastic engineers prepared for such a long term project and a client such as Amazon? Report from Taipei say that Cather Technology is purchasing 15,000 CNC machines to help boost the productivity and efficiency of the factory. That is good news for the Kindle Fire fans! The final product will be great quality, durable and in according to Amazon’s standards.
Since the specs are still somewhat unknown an anonymous source has added some juicy rumors to the mill for the Kindle Fire 2 specs. It is clear that Amazon has to compete with the iPad (and vica versa) and get some trump cards that they can play. So what are the main concerns Amazon will try to address and how will the Fire 2 be different from the previous kindle?
First of all, Amazon will address  the problems of the previous kindle and include:
  • Volume control
  • Support for an SD Card
And there are follow-up rumors in the mill that there will be a 9 inch version of the Kindle Fire 2 which would be really sweet! The new tablet will surely keep Amazon on the top of the tablet food chain!

Draw Something now available for the Kindle Fire

OMGPOP's insanely popular Draw Something app expanded its reach even further this week, with its launch on the Amazon Appstore. The online retailer announced the news with a tweet posted Wednesday, confirming that the Pictionary-like game is now available for the Kindle Fire. Users can download the game on the Appstore, in either free or paid versions.

Today's announcement comes just a few weeks after Draw Something eclipsed the 50 million download mark (a feat it achieved in its first 50 days), and a little more than a month after social gaming company Zynga acquired OMGPOP for $180 million. It remains to be seen whether the app can maintain this growth for a sustained period, but for the moment, at least, it's showing no signs of slowing down.

Google isn't trying to save Android tablets but kill Kindle Fire

Rumors about Google's forthcoming tablet are increasing, which astounds me -- as they portray this as something new. Hey, Google already formally stated it would produce an Android tablet. The rumormongers have got the reasons wrong, too. Google isn't gunning for Apple but Amazon.
The retail giant is by far the biggest competitive threat standing before Android today. Amazon has customized Android, released its own hardware, ditched Google's browser for its own Silk, established a viable app store alternative to Google Play and created a curated user experience that rivals Apple's. In just one quarter, Amazon's Kindle Fire jumped ahead of all other Android tablets, putting it second to iPad. Every Kindle Fire sold is one more brick in the wall blocking the success of the broader Android ecosystem.
I strongly disagree with CNET's Roger Cheng, who asserts: "The worst thing Google could do to its budding Android tablet business is get into it". A branded tablet is the best thing Google can do now for Android tablets.
Kindle Fire burns Android
Amazon announced $199 Kindle Fire in late September 2011 and started selling the media tablet in early November. According to IDC, the retailer shipped 4.7 million Kindle Fires during Q4, jumping to second place market share during the launch quarter. Amazon pushed Samsung down to third place. The Android tablet makers had 16.8 percent and 5.8 percent share, respectively, with Samsung growing from 5.5 percent in third quarter.
Something else: Kindle Fire is largely responsible for Android market share gains -- to 44.6 percent during fourth quarter, up from 32.3 percent three months earlier. During Q4 the two leading tablet operating systems were iOS and Amazon's Android, with combined share of 71.5 percent. Let me restate that: Not Android, but Amazon Android.
Google's tablet has got to get past Kindle Fire before ever touching iPad, which had 54.7 percent market share during fourth quarter, according to IDC.
Amazon's $199 is focus of Google tablet rumors, for good reason. Our polls show that most people don't want to spend more. But there is much more to Kindle Fire's success than price. There are other compelling $199 tablets, such as Lenovo's Ideapad A1, that trail far behind. Price is just table stakes. iPad competitors need more than lower-cost tablets to win.
Fractured Android
What Amazon does right, like Apple, that Google must do: Sell a lifestyle. Amazon prioritizes features and pricing that matter for living one digital lifestyle around its cloud-connected services, rather than offering the latest, hardware and software. Like Apple, Amazon offers a stack of content and services. Kindle Fire isn't about techie features but a digital lifestyle around Amazon products and services.
Unlike other Android tablet manufacturers, Amazon takes complete control over the entire stack. Kindle Fire features an Amazon-customized version of Android 2.x, its own Android app store, music and movie stores, ebook store, web browser and customized media consumption software and services. Sony is closest, followed by Samsung, among Android tablet manufacturers.
Amazon is creating a curated experience that matches Apple's and, in some respects, exceeds it. Consumers can buy Kindle books for Fire, but read them on their iPhone, Android handset or other device. Amazon allows movies and music on Kindle Fire or other devices. From Apple it's just devices supporting iTunes Store. People buying into the Amazon lifestyle get Kindle Fire plus something else. That's an added benefit not available from Apple or other Android tablet vendors -- okay, Sony is closest.
Amazon's continued success is good for driving up Android shipments against iPad, but it's bad broadly. Kindle Fire benefits Amazon and its customers willing to buy into the curated experience but at the expense of the larger Android ecosystem.
Amazon's objectives are contrary to Google's. For example, if I type the web address to Google's Android Market into the Silk browser on my wife's Kindle Fire, Amazon's Android app store opens instead. On other Android tablets, Google Play is default but there is option to sideload from other stores, like Amazon's.
Android already is fragmented. Kindle Fire, Amazon Android, the retailer's app store and curated services stand to fracture the platform and wrestle control from Google. CEO Larry Page, Android leader Andy Rubin and other Google execs aren't dummies. They can see exactly what's happening.
Google Play to Win
Google will bring a large arsenal to bear on Amazon:
1. The Google brand, which like Apple's and Amazon's is well-known and highly regarded. Branding and perception are everything in business.
2. Price, assuming Google goes for $199, as rumored. It's what I'd do.
3. Ice Cream Sandwich. Why wouldn't Google offer its newest Android version and in process finally jumpstart adoption. Google's partners are dragging their asses getting their devices to Android 4.0. As of April 2, ICS accounted for just 2.9 percent of all Android devices, which means cell phones, too.
4. Curated digital lifestyle apps. The Android ecosystem should prepare for the coming Google Android stack to rival Amazon's and to compete with other partners. About a month ago, the search and information giant renamed Android Market Google Play and last week prominently placed a link on the dark bar across services pages like Gmail and Plus.
The name change emphasizes Google over Android as dominant brand and foreshadows the curated approach to come. Like Amazon and Apple, Google offers ebooks, movies and music at its store. Then there is the broader digital lifestyle supported by services like search and maps.
5. Integration. Google is in process of cross-integrating all its products and services, many of which are tightly tied to Android and most prominently and deeply in Ice Cream Sandwich. Already, Google integration pays off big on smartphones. According to comScore's "2012 Mobile Future in Focus" report:
Google-owned apps led across both iPhones and Android devices in terms of total unique active users. For iPhone users, YouTube ranked as the top app by unique visitors, followed by Google Maps, Facebook, Yahoo! Weather and Pandora Radio. Analysis of the Android market found that Google Search led as the top app, followed by Gmail, Google Maps, Facebook and Google News & Weather.
What Google needs now is a successful tablet running ICS.
6. Reference Design. In January 2010, Google unveiled the Nexus One smartphone, which it sold direct to customers. Many bloggers and journalists wrongly wrote that Google charted new retail waters by selling direct, missing the point: Google wasn't going into retail sales but establishing a reference design for manufacturers and developers. From that perspective, Google executed brilliantly with N1 and continued with December release of the Samsung-made Nexus S and the Galaxy Nexus a year later.
A Google tablet as reference design is more important now than when I called for it in January 2011. Because of Amazon Android. Google can rally developers to a pure Android tablet running the newest OS version, while leading way for hardware partners to follow.
If Google fails, there will be two Androids competing against iOS tablets. What's that saying about a house divided?

BreakDroid is a Mac utility for rooting Kindle Fire 6.3

If you want to root an Amazon Kindle Fire running software version 6.3 or earlier and you have a Windows PC all you need is the latest Kindle Fire Utility. But if you’re using a Mac, there’s another solution.
It’s called BreakDroid, and the latest version works with Kindle Fire software versions 6.2.2 and 6.3.
BreakDroid
BreadkDroid is actually a multi-purpose rooting tool. It can also root the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Samsung Glaaxy Note, Motorola Droid RAZR, and a number of other phones and tablets that can be rooted using the GingerBreak, psneuter, and zergrush exploits.
Rooting an Android device allows you to access files and settings that are normally protected. This lets you run apps that require access to those files, such as the app backup utility Titanium Backup.
It’s also generally one of the first things you need to do if you want to replace the bootloader or recovery on a phone or tablet so that you can install custom ROMs such as CyanogenMod.

FireFireFire – Custom Bootloader For the Kindle Fire

The Amazin Kindle Fire has proven itself to be a very popular and capable device. There is certainly no shortage of development for the device, much of which is listed in a very helpful thread posted by XDA Senior Member stiffmast3r.
Many people tend to immediately think of custom ROMs and kernels as the be-all and end-all of development that happens on XDA, and the bootloader of our devices is often overlooked. However this is not the case over in the Kindle Fire section. FireFireFire is a custom bootloader originally developed by XDA Senior Member pokey9000, which offers increased functionality over the stock bootloader in 3 ways:
  • It allows you to access recovery mode by simply pressing the power button again after the device begins to boot, thus negating the need for cumbersome button combinations.
  • It also automatically enables fastboot when the device is powered on, eliminating the need for idme bootmode, special cables or the command required by the stock bootloader on every run of fastboot.
  • It is also possible to use FireFireFire to repartition the devices memory and fix a bricked device when used in conjunction with ReKindle. (Be warned though that the method involves some AdamOutler style tinkering with the internals of your device)
Unfortunately it seems that pokey9000 is no longer working on FireFireFire. However, the modification lives on, and the torch has been passed to Senior Member kinfauns. His version brings a few changes that you may prefer to the original, namely a different boot logo and a shorter fastboot window which will shave 5 seconds off the boot time.
You can find both versions in the links below:

How to Launch Android Market From Kindle Fire UI

Amazon Prepping Smartphone, 2-3 Kindle Fire Tablets for Launch, Analyst Says

Kindle Fire
Amazon is reportedly prepping new Amazon Kindle Fire tablets, including a possible 10.1-inch model, as well as a smartphone, Topeka analyst Brian White said in a research note Monday.
“Originally launched in 4Q11, the Kindle Fire is only available with a seven-inch screen and we believe a larger screen size version is coming this summer,” White said in his note. “In fact, there could be two or possibly three versions of the Fire released with this launch and at least an eight-inch version appears to be in the cards.” White also said that Topeka’s research suggests that Amazon is working on building a smartphone that “could prove to be more sophisticated than many smartphones on the market.” It’s unclear exactly what White meant by that statement, however, since he doesn’t follow up with any hardware details on the phone.
Presumably, Amazon’s smartphone would run either NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 chip or Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 processor, two of the most powerful mobile processors on the market today. We’d also guess Amazon’s smartphone would support 4G LTE networks, since AT&T and Verizon currently employ support for the wireless technology in high-end smartphones and Sprint’s also working on building out its own LTE network.
Unfortunately, none of what White says is particularly shocking or new. We’ve already heard that Amazon may be preparing a larger 8.9-inch tablet, as well as a possible 10-inch quad-core device, and one analyst already claimed Amazon will launch a smartphone sometime this year.
We certainly won’t be surprised if Amazon does decide to enter the smartphone market. The online retailer has an incredible eco-system that spans from its own Android app store to a music store, video rental service and more. What would you want from an Amazon smartphone?

“From the product specification and features that’s available with the Kindle Fire + Wifi, it only comes to tell that the Kindle can be much more than just a Wifi connection, but with a 3G or 4G Lite connection, just like other past and present Amazon Kindle releases.

For this reason, is the Kindle Fire ever going to be more than just an ebook for wifi hotspots? What if it comes with a 3G?

I have the Kindle Keyboard with Free 3G and it works great in my country since I’m not in the United States. And I understand that most buyers are happy to have the Kindle Keyboard since it has 3G available for users. I know if the Kindle Fire has such a facility added to it, maybe on Amazon’s next design of the Kindle Fire, will have greater review, greater users and greater, added advantage over the Kindle Fire + Wife.

So, I’m waiting to see what would be Amazon’s next design of the Kindle Fire. I hope there is one soon with 3G enabled, because that is a Kindle I dream to have.”

Apple ‘working on’ 7.85-inch iPad tablet to tackle Kindle Fire

Look out Kindle Fire, Apple is playing around with a 7.85-inch iPad tablet, according to Apple tipster John Gruber.

Apple is working on a smaller screen version of the iPad and already has a prototype in its labs, according to the notoriously well-connected Apple writer John Gruber.
Speaking on his Daring Fireball site’s podcast, Gruber says the in-the-works slate will boast the same resolution as the original iPad, rather than the recently-unveiled 2048 x 1536 Retina Display on the new iPad.
Replying to the question “Is Apple going to come out with a 7″ iPad, and if not: why not?” from the show’s host, Gruber said the long-rumoured smaller tablet would be like the regular iPad, just smaller.
He said: “Well, I don’t know. What I do know is that they [Apple] have one in the lab…a 7.85 inch iPad that runs at 1024×768…it’s just like the regular iPad shrunk down a bit.
“I’ve heard from multiple people that this is something that they’re kind of noodling with.”
A smaller iPad, would surely come at a cheaper price point than the new device’s $539 jumping-off point and perhaps boast more modest specs in order to compete with the US$200 Amazon Kindle Fire, which is dominating the low-end tablet market.
Could we see a smaller iPad unveiled alongside the heavily-tipped iPhone 5 this spring or will Apple wait until next March before unveiling a smaller companion to its all-conquering tablet?

Draw Something Tops 50 Million Downloads in 50 Days

Draw Something Tops 50 Million Downloads in 50 Days

Draw Something The runaway hit mobile game Draw Something has been downloaded more than 50 million times in just 50 days, according to Zynga.
The game passed the 50 million download mark on Wednesday, after launching just two months ago, Zynga said. In its first six weeks alone, the Pictionary-like game, which is available for iPhones and Android devices, had already been downloaded more than 35 million times.
"We believe it's not only the fastest-growing original mobile game of all time – 50 days to hit 50 million downloads — but one of the fastest growing web sensations that we’ve seen," Zynga said in a statement.
Zynga last month bought Draw Something developer OMGPOP for an estimated $180 million, plus another $30 million for employee retention payments. As part of Zynga, the 40-person team at New York-based OMGPOP will now focus on building new mobile games and continuing to develop its existing titles.
"If you haven't played [Draw Something] already I highly recommend that you check it out, it's super fun," David Ko, chief mobile officer of Zynga, said last month on a call with reporters.
The game, which is available for free or $0.99 for the version without ads, also just regained its spot as the top paid app in the App Store, knocking off Angry Birds Space. It also currently sits atop the top free and top grossing lists. Since it was launched, more than 6 billion drawings have been created, Zynga said.
Interested in some more fun facts about Draw Something? Well, the day the game launched, users created three drawings per second, Zynga said. And, at its peak, Draw Something users generated 3,000 drawings per second. The most popular words are starfish, pregnant, Hangman, six pack, and boom box while the least popular word is latrine.

Draw Something is more than a social game, it's a window into the minds of others

Draw Something is more than a social game, it's a window into the minds of others

Draw Something is more than a simple Pictionary clone. While it stems off the same concept that has been used over and over, there are no time limits and no punishments for incorrect guesses. These aspects, along with the one-on-one setting, remove any sense of competition from the game. The resulting experience is less a game, and more an insight into individual personalities.
I met Mr. Frost in one of my first matches. Over the next few days, we played when we had time. We're about 50 rounds in so far, and we haven't missed a word yet. Our pictures started as silly little sketches consisting of only black and primary colors and evolved into vivid scenes and occasionally hilarious situations. I didn't just get to sit back and watch my own ability grow—my artistic ability has indeed grown, at least by Draw Something standards—I also got to watch someone else grow alongside me.
We both started off with the same crude style, but as we played, those styles grew apart. I've found I use a lot of color to illustrate my words, while Mr. Frost puts more emphasis on detail. Neither is better than the other, but it leads to completely different drawings for the exact same word. For “EMINEM”, I'd draw a bunch of candies, while Mr. Frost would likely try drawing the rapper himself.
Mr. Frost and I have learned a lot about each other through the way we play the game. I've never met the guy, but based solely on word selection and the guesses we make, I can't help but think we'd get along in real life. When it's your turn to draw, you get the choice between three words Each one is more difficult than the last, but also nets you more coins if your partner guesses it. Mr. Frost and I seem to move straight toward any video game-based word we come across. And if we're stumped, we both often make guesses about the video game universe. Even when those guesses are wrong, we just rearrange the letter bank until we find a suitable word that fits the allocated space. Mr. Frost and I think alike, and our synergy has grown as we've played the game.
My experience from Mr. Frost came from a random pairing. You can choose to play with friends, and that's a completely different experience. When I linked my Facebook account and created a new game, I was able to see which of my friends were already playing, and I was given the option to invite others. As new friends picked up the game, I got to see shades of my past. While I've earned enough in-game coins to unlock various colors and shades, my friends were stuck with the same four options I had at first. Without saying (or writing) a word, I was able to show them some of the tricks I've learned, and they – perhaps inadvertently – showed me some new things.

Draw Something Draw Something

Linking your Facebook account isn't the only way to play. You can use email or a username to find people you know too. You can play a bunch of games at the same time, and you'll want to, because your bank fills with coins each time you get a word correct. These coins can be used to purchase more colors or buy bombs that eliminate incorrect letters from the letter bank. The bombs are nice, but I only found good use for them when my partner really struggled with the drawing. On the other hand, colors enrich the experience, but you'll find a lot of creativity from those who have only the default choices.
There's both a free and a paid version of the game. Both versions allow play between iOS and Android users, and they both play identically. The paid version eliminates ads, adds about 2,000 more words, and gives you 400 free coins (you can also opt to buy coins separately if you'd rather not wait to earn them). Those who play a lot may want to put down money for the paid version, as there are only so many times you can stand having to draw Shrek.
Draw Something is neither a challenge nor a competition. It's a social game in its purest form. Whether you're playing a close friend or a complete stranger, you learn about who they are. How somebody approaches Draw Something tells a lot about them. Perhaps they have an eye for detail, maybe they enjoy a good joke, or maybe they play in a way that’s completely unique. There are some bad eggs that try to earn a quick coin by simply writing their word. Like the rest, that action alone gives us an insight as to what kind of person we're playing with.
The lack of competition and challenge will understandably be a turnoff to many. The rest will discover pure, innocent fun, and an amazing window into the minds of others.

How to create a masterpiece: Draw Something tips, hints, and cheatsg

How to create a masterpiece: Draw Something tips, hints, and cheats

Everybody and their mother is playing OMGPOP's rather excellent iOS and Android sketch-'em-up Draw Something, which managed to nab a shiny Gold Award at review.

To be fair, it's ruddy addictive. The aim of the game, in case you're one of the three people who's yet to play it, is to grab your durable iPaintbrush (your finger) and create a Rolf Harris-esque masterpiece from scratch.

Your opponent then has to guess what your frantic scribblings actually are using the jumbled letters that are displayed on-screen.

And that's pretty much it. Oh, before we forget, check out what we think are 20 of the best Draw Something creations. They're absolutely fabulous, dahling.

Drawing up a storm

In Draw Something, you take on multiple opponents in asynchronous matches, which you can drop in and out of at will. If an opponent successfully guesses your creation, you get the chance to guess theirs. A match continues until somebody gives up.

When it's your turn to sketch, you're greeted by a screen that contains three different words to choose from - all of which vary in difficulty: Easy, Medium, and Hard. The amount of coins you earn depends on the difficulty level you choose to undertake.

If you don't think you can transform any of the words into a glorious picture, you can use your limited supply of bombs to get three fresh choices. Or you can simply close the app, remove it from your multitasking dock, and then fire it back up again to be greeted with three new words. The choice is yours.

Purchase at least one new pack of colours (by tapping the '+' symbol next to your existing colour palette) using the coins you save using that cheeky cheat in the above paragraph. We suggest you stump up the cash for the Mardi Gras package early in the game, for it features a nice selection of colours that you don't have access to from the off.

Take your time while you're drawing: this game is a marathon, not a sprint. Don't just blob a ton of colour onto the playing field and hope for the best. A thin black pencil and a little outline can go a long way.

Finally, try to colour the objects you're drawing with a high degree of verisimilitude - it makes life a lot easier. Have you ever bumped into a purple hamster in the real word? Thought not.

The guessing game

There aren't many tips we can give you for guessing your opponents's drawings. To be frank, some of them are shocking. However, Draw Something does give you a helping hand.

For starters, the game lets you know exactly how many letters make up the word that your partner is attempting to convey.

It also gives you 12 jumbled-up letters with which to construct this word, so you're not entirely on your lonesome here. If you're still stuck, bombs can be used to remove the letters that you don't really need.

Cheaters never (read: always) prevail

If you're still left scratching your head after you've exhausted the above avenues, there's only one thing left to do: cheat.

We don't normally condone cheating here at Pocket Gamer Towers, but there are plenty of ways to dirty your Draw Something hands out there on that thing we call the internet.

Firstly, you can simply head on over to the Win Every Game website, which is a website designed to help Scrabble players get one over on their intellectually gifted opponents. Just enter the letters that you've been presented with in Draw Something on this website, and it'll give you a list of anagrams - it's that easy.

Alternatively, you can head on over to Apple's App Store and download the aptly named Draw Solver Pro - Cheat at Draw Something! application for the small sum of 69p / 99c [buy].

This application allows you to upload a screenshot of the picture you're trying to guess - complete with the letters Draw Something has given you - and almost instantly receive the correct answer.

Just remember: the above method of cheating guarantees your passage into hell.

You can download Draw Something as a Universal app on iOS in one of two flavours (or both, if you wish): a 69p / 99c ad-free version [buy], and a free-to-play ad-supported version [download].

Likewise, you can download a free Android version of Draw Something for, well, free [download]. Or you can shell out 62p for the ad-free Android edition [buy].
